Winter Storm Warnings, Ferguson Protests Continue, Darrell Clarke Hands Out Turkeys

The first significant storm of the season is bearing down on the region and will pile up more than half a foot of snow by Wednesday night in parts of the Delaware Valley. Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for the Poconos, Lehigh Valley and northern Bucks, Montgomery and Chester counties. A Winter Weather advisory is in effect for Philadelphia and nearby suburbs. This will be a sloppy, heavy wet snow that will be tough to travel through once the changeover occurs. Commuters should prepare for reduced visibility, slushy roads, and slick spots especially if heading north. South and East of the city, roads will generally be wet because of heavy rain and ponding is likely.

Hundreds rallied in Philadelphia as part of a second day of demonstrations protesting of the grand juryâ€™s decision in Ferguson. The crowd moved from City Hall and throughout North Philadelphia. The protests were passionate, but peaceful. Hundreds gathered at City Hall around 3 p.m. Tuesday and marched up North Broad Street to Cecil B. Moore holding signs saying Black Lives Matter and carrying large posters of Michael Brown.

City Council President Darrell Clarke talked about support for students inside and outside of the classroom as he handed out holiday turkeys on Tuesday afternoon. The turkeys were distributed to needy families at the Spring Garden School, where Clarke also talked about the need to fund so-called wraparound services for kids. And as for when Clarke might reveal whether heâ€™s running for mayor, he saidâ€¦relatively soon.
