Delaware Robbery Suspect Dies; Women Found Dead in Paulsboro; Foxcatcher Movie's Philly Storyline

An armed robbery suspect shot by Delaware State Troopers this afternoon has died. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old William 'Billy' McNulty, of Claymont, DE. Both robberies occurred on Friday morning. Authorities say that around 6:00 a.m. he approached a female withdrawing cash from the ATM at the M&T Bank located at 3530 Philadelphia Pike armed with a gun. He demanded money but she did not comply and he fled. At 6:15 a.m. he entered the 7-11 at 2100 Foulk Road. McNulty pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money, this time getting an undisclosed amount of cash.

State troopers first saw the suspect's vehicle at 11:30 a.m. near Governor Printz Boulevard and Princeton Avenue in Claymont. They tried to pull him over but he fled striking police vehicles along the way. They lost track of him and called off the search at Noon. McNulty eluded police again around 2:15 p.m. At 4:15 officers chased him eastbound down Harvey Road in the area of Garfield Avenue. McNulty's Toyota Corolla went off the road, over a curb, and onto a grassy surface. According to police, there were several marked patrol cars and Troopers outside of their cars giving orders to McNulty to stop and exit his vehicle. Instead, he put his car in reverse and began to accelerate back towards the troopers. Two troopers opened fire, hitting the rear window and McNulty. He was taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he later died. The two troopers have been placed on administrative leave as per divisional policy, pending the outcome of the investigation. McNulty has a history with drug addiction and a 2010 arrest for leading police on a car chase through Claymont.

The body of a 26-year-old woman was found in an apartment in Paulsboro, Gloucester County, NJ on Friday Night. Police came to the apartment complex on the 400 block of Thomson Avenue around 6 p.m. The woman was last seen by relatives a few days ago, earlier this week. Gloucester County Prosecutorâ€™s Office and the Paulsboro Police Department are treating this as a suspicious death although the cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy will be performed by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office at Noon on Saturday.

The movie â€œFoxcatcherâ€ starring Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo, and Channing Tatum opens in theaters in limited release this weekend. If you see and it sounds familiar that's because the story was ripped right from our local headlines from 18 years ago. The title itself comes from John du Pont's (heir to the Delaware chemical company) Newtown Square estate named â€œFoxcatcher Farm.â€ In January 1996, du Pont shot and killed 36-year-old Olympic gold medal wrestler David Schultz in a guesthouse on his estate. du Pont hosted dozens of Olympic wrestlers there so that they could train at world class facilities he provided for the USA team including David's brother Mark. Following the murder, du Pont held police at bay in a tense 2-day barricade situation. There were also constant questions about his sanity or competency which was hard to distinguish from his eccentricity. du Pont was found guilty, but mentally ill and was sentenced to 13 to 30 years in prison. He died in prison in 2010. Steve Carell plays John du Pont, Mark Ruffalo plays Dave Shultz, and Channing Tatum plays Mark Shultz. The movie was directed by Bennett Miller.

Villanova University's multipurpose indoor facility used for various events including basketball and tennis was originally called the John EleuthÃ¨re du Pont Pavilion when it opened in 1986. du Pont's named was removed when he was convicted of murder in 1997. It is now known simply as "The Pavilion."
