A student at a suburban Seattle high school opened fire in the cafeteria on Friday killing one and injuring several others as they ate lunch. The attacker has been identified as 14-year-old freshman student Jaylen Fryberg. He was killed in the attack. It happened at Marysville Pilchuck High School about 30 miles north of Seattle, WA. Students say the gunman walked into the cafeteria, pulled out a small gun and simply started shooting his victims in the head without saying anything. Four victims were taken to area hospitals with 3 listed in critical condition and one listed in serious condition. Their identifications have not been released and there is no initial indication towards a motive. The FBI will help in the investigation.

Former Philadelphia mob boss 'Skinny' Joey Merlino is heading back to prison. Today, a Philadelphia judge ruled that Merlino had violated the terms of his supervised release and sentenced him to four months in prison. Merlino served 12 years for racketeering and related offenses. He was just days away from the end of his formal supervised release when authorities filed allegations he was not following protocol. Specifically, Merlino was caught mingling with a convicted felon and a former co-defendant inside the Havana Nights Cigar Bar, in Boca Raton, Fla. He was under surveillance by a Broward County detective as part of an ongoing investigation by a US Attorney. Merlino's lawyer insists that he is not involved in any criminal activity. Merlino is scheduled to report to prison in a month.

The back and forth over New Jersey's bid to start legalized sports betting continued on Friday. A federal judge granted a request to temporarily halt the Garden State from allowing sports gambling at casinos and race tracks. U.S. District Judge Michael Shipp sided with the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and NCAA and issued a temporary restraining order. He said that those leagues showed they would be irreparably harmed if the betting were allowed. Governor Chris Christie had signed a law of October 17th that opened the door for sports betting in the state. Monmouth Park racetrack was ready to start accepting bets this Sunday. The sports leagues have filed a lawsuit seeking a permanent ban in New Jersey.
