3 CC Attack Suspects Surrender/Mugshots; Frein Manhunt Continues Update; PA Senate Medical Pot

The three suspects wanted in connection with an assault on a same-sex couple on September 11th in Center City have turned themselves into Philadelphia Police today. 24-year-old Phillip Williams of Warminster, 24-year-old Kathyrn Knott of Southhampton, and 26-year-old Kevin Harrigan of Warrington have all been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. The incident happened around 10:45p on the 1600 block of Chancellor Street. Two males, ages 27 and 28, were approached by a group of men and women who made disparaging remarks about their sexual orientation. When they got close some members of the group attacked the couple, punching them in the head, face, and chest. The men required hospitalization, including one having his jaw wired shut. Tips from the public helped identify the suspects from surveillance video released by the police. Police have release their mugshots. (see below L-R Williams, Knott, Harrigan)

An unsavory view of the defendant Kathryn Knott emerged today as her twitter profile was read and examined. Take a look at a sample of her tweets on https://storify.com/Clarknt67/meet-defendant-kathryn-knott. Knott's tweets contain derogatory remarks against gays and other races. She also talks about and posts pictures of heavy drinking. Finally, there are quite a few tweets that contain accounts of her patients in the ER. She has been suspended from her nursing position as a result. Her father is the Chalfont Police Chief Karl Knott.

Officers in Northeastern Pennsylvania said today that believe they spotted fugitive Eric Frein, although at a distance, before he eluded them. Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters on Wednesday that officers saw a man thought to be Eric Frein on Tuesday but the distance and rugged terrain enabled him to disappear. It would have been the first time they had seen the suspect after the ambush on State Troopers at the Blooming Grove barracks on September 12th. Police have also discovered discarded packs of Serbian-brand cigarettes and soiled adult diapers. The diapers would allow him to stay stationary for a long period of time. Authorities feel they are closing in on him with these findings. Locals will certainly welcome the conclusion of the manhunt and the end of the disruptions especially the changing road closures that can cut them off from home and family.

Governor Tom Corbett quickly signed the bill enabling the $2-per-pack cigarette tax for Philadelphia schools today. The extra $2 on each pack will only be collected in the City of Philadelphia and is earmarked to go to the cash strapped Philadelphia School District that has been operating at a budget deficit. The tax will generate approximately $80 million a year.

In other 'smoking' news, the PA Senate voted 43-7 to approve a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania. State residents would need an access card from the Health Department after proving they have a practitioner-patient relationship and written confirmation of a qualifying medical condition. Besides smoking, several other delivery methods would be approved including: extracted oil, edible products, ointments, and tinctures. However, the bill still would need to pass the House and there are only a handful of days left in the current legislative session. Governor Tom Corbett is also against legalization of marijuana whether its for medicinal or recreational use.
