Ray Rice Video to NFL Months Ago, Christie Signs NJ Police Video Camera Bill, Revel Casino Offer

A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive five months ago, while league executives have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week. The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: “You’re right. It’s terrible.” The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can’t confirm anyone watched the video. The person said they were unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice’s punishment.

Gov. Chris Christie has signed a measure that requires police departments to mount video cameras on their new cars or provide their officers with wearable cameras. The measure Christie signed Wednesday was advocated by Assemblyman Paul Moriarty. The Democrat was charged in 2012 with drunken driving but was cleared with the help of evidence from a camera on the squad car of the Washington Township officer who pulled him over. Moriarty says the measure is also intended to help protect officers in disputes with citizens.

Attorneys for Revel Casino Hotel say that a Florida developer has offered $90 million for the Atlantic City property that closed this month. The casino said in a court filing Wednesday that Glenn Straub has made the cash bid. It’s unclear whether Straub would operate the property as a casino if the sale went through. A bankruptcy court judge would have to approve any sale.

Weather, September 11

Partly cloudy with afternoon showers or thunderstorms. High 88 in Center City.
