Hollywood, family, friends and fans around the world are mourning the loss of Joan Rivers. She passed away today after going into cardiac arrest on August 28th. Joan Rivers first appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1965 and was an immediate hit. A rarity at the time, there were very few female comedians. Joan Rivers was 81 years old.

Dilworth Park is now open. The west side of City Hall has been transformed into a beautiful public space with fountains, a café, an ice skating rink and glass headhouses that serve as grand entrances to the subway system. About a third of the new Dilworth Park is still being completed and is scheduled to open by Thanksgiving.

Officials in Delaware have reported the state’s first case of West Nile virus. It was detected in a group of sentinel chickens that is monitored for mosquito borne diseases. The virus positive chicken was sampled August 25th at a monitoring station. The state’s Mosquito Control Section now plans to increase monitoring and take appropriate mosquito control action.
