Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will be honored by Bryn Mawr College for her trailblazing legal career. Sotomayor will receive the 2015 Katharine Hepburn Medal, given to women who embody "the intelligence, drive and independence" of the Oscar-winning actress. Hepburn was a 1928 graduate of Bryn Mawr. She’ll receive the Hepburn Medal on April 17. The medal is also named for the actress’ mother, Katharine Houghton Hepburn. She was an early women’s rights activist and 1900 Bryn Mawr graduate. Previous recipients include actress Lauren Bacall and rocker Patti Smith.

Police are investigating after a nine-year-old boy was grazed in the head by a bullet in the Tacony section of Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Torresdale Avenue and Knorr Street. Eyewitnesses describe hearing two shots. People who were nearby were stunned to see the boy bleeding and crying as his parents were yelling for help. Neighbors immediately rushed to the child’s aid and he was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was treated and released. Police say the boy was standing in front of the intended target.

A judge has held a Hunting Park school principal and three teachers for trial on charges they cheated on state tests. Staffers at Cayuga Elementary School testified that principal Evelyn Cortez pressured teachers to give students answers to the state PSSA exams, changed completed test booklets, and reprimanded teachers who wouldn’t cheat. Municipal Judge David Shuter did throw out corrupt organizations charges against Cortez and defendants Lorraine Vicente and Jennifer Hughes.
