15-year-old Girl Driving Crashed SUV; $140,000 Gold Stolen; Boy, 9, Grazed in Tacony

The Wayne County Disctrict Attorney says that a 15-year-old girl from Westchester, New York was the driver of the SUV involved in a fatal crash over the weekend that killed three boys from Bucks County. The crash happened on Saturday morning August 30th near Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos. The 2001 Chevy Suburban had belonged to the girl's parents and she had taken it without their permission. The girl and her 16-year-old girl friend, also from New York, had taken the car and picked up four boys from Council Rock High School. They all went out to breakfast and on the way back the SUV was involved in a single car accident killing three of the boys. The Pennsylvania State Police and local authorities are investigating. There are no signs of alcohol or drugs involved. Charges are pending in juvenile court.

A gold dealer had $140,000 in gold stolen out of his vehicle in West Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. Simon Cohen, a wholesale gold dealer, had just pulled up to a gold business near 52nd and Market. He had been inside only a few minutes but came outside to a smashed window and his precious cargo gone. A witness told him a guy on a bike rode up, smashed the window with a hammer, grabbed the bag, and left. Cohen doesn't believe that it was a random act, he must have been targeted/followed. Police came out to the location at 1:45 pm Tuesday and started collected surveillance video from the area. Cohen hopes they can find the stolen loot, otherwise he'll have to pay back his suppliers. The wholesale gold business isn't for the faint of heart.

A nine year old boy was grazed in the head by a bullet in the Tacony section of Philadelphia on Tuesday. It happened around 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Torresdale Avenue and Knorr Street. Witnesses say they heard two shots ring out. The boy was walking home when he suffered a graze wound to the head from one of those shots. He was taken to the Childrenâ€™s Hospital of Philadelphia, treated and released. Detectives are investigating the incident and trying to determine what lead to the shooting and finding possible suspects. They are collecting evidence and going over surveillance.
