Casey Kasem Passes at 82, SEPTA Strike Hearings, Olney Shooting Injures One

Casey Kasem, the internationally famous radio broadcaster with the cheerful manner and gentle voice who became the king of the top 40 countdown with a syndicated show that ran for decades, died Sunday. Kasem's "American Top 40" began on July 4, 1970, in Los Angeles. The No. 1 song on his list then was "Mama Told Me Not to Come," by Three Dog Night. The show continued until his retirement in 2009. In his signoff, he would say: "And don't forget: keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars." Casy Kasem was 82.

The short-lived SEPTA strike is over and Regional Rail trains are moving again, but the labor dispute involving the transit agency and the unions representing 400 engineers and electricians is far from over. SEPTA announced Sunday that hearings will take place next week before an emergency board, established by President Barrack Obama. The three-person panel of veteran mediators will hear from both sides and try to bring them together.

Police are looking for the suspects involved in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the Olney section of Philadelphia. This happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday near 2nd Street and Champlost Avenue. A 21-year-old was shot in the left leg. He was taken to Einstein Hospital where he is in stable condition. Police are looking for several men that were seen running into a van with a rustic colored hood.
