The speakers and program for tomorrow's memorial service for businessman Lewis Katz have been announced. Former President Bill Clinton, Ed Snider, Mayor Nutter, Gov. Corbett, Sen. Cory Booker, and others are expected to speak. Katz was killed on Sunday with 6 others in a private plane crash in Massachusetts. The service will be held at 11 am at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Temple University.

A bridge along I-495 over the Christina River in Delaware was shutdown late Monday night, and on Tuesday officials don't expect it to be open anytime soon. The bridge is stable enough to support itself, but engineers do not want to open it back up to traffic until it can be fixed. The problem lies in four 50 foot support columns that are tilting as much as 2.4 degrees, or 4 percent, from vertical. This span of the interstate carries 90,000 vehicles per day. Traffic is being diverted onto I-95 through Wilmington or over the Delaware Memorial Bridge and through New Jersey. The bridge will have to be reinspected and engineers will have to devise a solution. The 40-year-old bridge is inspected every two years, and was last inspected in October 2012. An engineering firm working on an unrelated project spotted the possible problem and notified DelDOT.
Grammy-award winner and chart topper Taylor Swift recently donated $50,000 to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to create a music-therapy program for teens undergoing cancer treatment. The Pennsylvania-native's gift will help fund a high-tech music therapy cart. Teens will be able to produce their own music as they undergo their cancer treatments. The “recording studio on wheels†will also allow all patients the opportunity to express their musical creatively whether it is in their rooms or at the teen center. |
