Engineering students at Villanova are making final adjustments on the race car they built ahead of an international competition next weekend. 31 students in the Formula SAE club built everything on the car aside from the tires, wheels and engine. The engine is a 600cc motor from a Suzuki R6 motorcycle only has about 80 horsepower, but it will propel this 425 pound ride from 0-60 in 3 seconds - that’s faster than a Ferrari - and it has a top speed of about 110mph. More than 120 schools will be represented at Michigan International Speedway. There are four racing events: A 100 meter dash, a timed figure 8, an autocross event, and a 22 kilometer endurance race.

A college basketball coach aboard a hot-air balloon that burned at a balloon festival in Virginia starred as a player at a Philadelphia high school. Ginny Doyle was aboard the balloon that crashed Friday at the Mid-Atlantic Balloon Festival. The balloon collided with power lines and the balloon’s passenger basket burst into flames and fell into the woods about 25 miles north of Richmond. All three passengers have been found and confirmed dead. Doyle, a native of Southampton Township, Bucks County, was known as a skilled free-throw shooter at Archbishop Ryan High School and was the associate head coach of the Richmond Spiders women’s basketball team.

As researchers continue to search for a cure for breast cancer, they continue to look at the affect the disease has on different groups, such as age, race and nationality. New studies show women of Indian descent in the United States are being diagnosed with breast cancer more than women in India. This could be due to an increase of detection and lifestyle differences. Doctors stress the importance of awareness to get women in for their yearly mammograms in hopes of early detection.
