Munoz-Marin Charter Vote Postponed, Kane Turning Over Sting Evidence, Craig Ferguson Stepping Down

The Philadelphia School District has postponed a parents’ vote scheduled for Thursday on whether a West Kensington elementary school should be converted to a charter. A vote at a second school is still on for now. Parents at Munoz-Marin Elementary in West Kensington were scheduled to cast paper ballots Thursday to decide whether their school should remain in district control, or be turned over to charter operator Aspira. But the district, saying parents requested more time to analyze their choice, has now delayed that vote until further notice. A similar vote on converting Steel Elementary in Nicetown to a Mastery charter is still on for now.

Pennsylvania’s Attorney General now says she will turn over evidence in the sting operation that ensnared several prominent Philadelphia Democrats to Philadelphia’s District Attorney. Attorney General Kathleen Kane found herself facing withering criticism for shutting down the sting operation that caught lawmakers on tape accepting cash from a lobbyist working undercover. Kane defended her actions, saying among other things, that the case was tainted because there was evidence it targeted only black politicians. And when he raised questions about it, Kane essentially dared Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams to take the case.

Craig Ferguson announced Monday that he will step down as the host of CBS’ “The Late Late Show.” His last airdate will be sometime in December.
Ferguson will now look to hosting the syndicated game show “Celebrity Name Game,” along with developing television projects.

Weather, April 29

Overcast with rain showers. High 52 in Center City.
