Gunfire at Trenton Funeral; Arrest Warrant in Collingdale Hit-and-Run; DA Searches Chester Police

Gunfire erupted early this afternoon in Trenton at the funeral of a teenager killed earlier this month. Three people were shot and one person is in custody. It happened just after 12:00 pm at the Galilee Baptist Church, located in the 400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The funeral was being held for 19-year-old Cagney Labon Roberts who was murdered April 9th. Police officers were stationed outside the church, but that didn't dissuade the shooter(s). Three people were struck by gun shots, two men were hit critically and a woman was grazed. In the ensuing melee a woman was trampled and another suffered a seizure. All five people were hospitalized. Police arrested one individual on the scene. They also recovered five weapons; three in the church lot, one inside the church, and one on the suspect. An investigation will determine if there are more suspects and the origin of shots fired.

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the driver in a hit-and-run assault in Collingdale on Saturday morning. They say that 37-year-old Conroy Williams of Philadelphia was behind the wheel of the SUV that intentionally ran down 36-year-old Joel Witherspoon as he was getting into his car. The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19th on the 900 block of Bedford Avenue. Investigators say that Williams waited in his black Range Rover at the end of the dead-end street. When Witherspoon came out of his house and stood next his car, Williams drove down the street at him, hitting him and several other cars. Williams then ditched the SUV and got into another car driven by a woman to flee. Witherspoon broke two legs and suffered head injuries. He is now at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Anyone with information on Williams' whereabouts is asked to call Collingdale Police at 610-565-6500 or 911.

The victim, Joel Witherspoon, used to be a member of hip-hop group Philly's Most Wanted. They had a couple of hits in 2000-01. Remember this jam? â€œCross the Borderâ€

Detectives from the Delaware County District Attorneyâ€™s Special Investigation Division served search warrants this afternoon on the Chester Police Headquarters. The investigators focused their attention on the evidence room at the station. Reportedly, several items that were placed in the evidence lockers may have disappeared. The investigation is ongoing.
