Meek Mill Sues Philly Police; Delaware Principal and Daughter Mourned; Blood Moon Eclipse in Philly

Philly born-and-raised Hip Hop star Meek Mill is suing the Philadelphia Police department in connection to an arrest on Halloween 2012. On that night, Philadelphia cops pulled over Meek at 11th and Girard Streets. They claimed to smell marijuana and insisted on a search. Mill was handcuffed for not complying with the search, taken into custody, and transported to the 22nd Police District. At that point he was photographed (some of which were shared on social media). He was held in custody for nine hours and released without being charged at 4:30 am on Nov 1st. Meek Mill aka Robert Williams is seeking compensation and punitive damages for for civil rights violations, false imprisonment, invasion of privacy and civil conspiracy. He claims to have lost $22,000 for missing a private jet to Atlanta and being paid $39,000 to appear at a private party there while in custody in Philly. He also says that the negative publicity from the arrest turned a $2 million deal from Puma into $650,000.

A Delaware middle school principal and her daughter were killed over the weekend in a car crash. 42-year-old Tricia Martin of Camden and her 10-year-old daughter, Taryn, both died as a result of their injuries. Martin was the principal of Milford Central Academy with 1,000 students. The accident happened at 10:40 p.m. Friday on Barratts Chapel Road in Frederica. The Martins were travelling in their 2009 Acura MDX when for an unknown reason the SUV struck an embankment and flipped on it's side. Taryn exited the vehicle and waved down a passerby who had stopped for help. At that same time, a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by 49-year-old Richard Triola was driving down the road and hit the Acura. Tricia was thrown from the car and Taryn was also struck. The two were pronounced dead after being taken to area hospitals. The Milford School District has made counselors available as the entire district mourns.

The "Blood Moon" is so called because the lunar eclipse is tinted red from the Earth's shadow. Just like a sunset, the sun's rays get refracted in our atmosphere and only red gets through at a low angle. In Philadelphia, we may not have a great view of the eclipse tonight because of cloud cover in advance of a rain tomorrow. If you really want to look, the eclipse will start at 12:53 a.m. ET. You should see it start to change color at 1:58 a.m. and peak at 3:07 am.

The best place to see the eclipse in Philadelphia is anywhere you can see the full moon. It will be setting in the south west sky. This is the first of four eclipses in a row for North America known as a tetrad. The next one's are October 8, 2014; April 4, 2015, and September 28, 2015. This one is made an rarer occurrence because of the appearance of the planet Mars
