Salvation Army Donates Land for Park; Man Shoots Self in Hospital; NY Hunter Dumped Bobcat in Philly

The site of the deadly building collapse at 22nd and Market in Center City will become a park and memorial to the victims. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced that the Salvation army has donated the corner property where their thrift store once stood. On June 5th, 2013, six people died and another 13 were injured when a four story brick wall fell on the store during the demolition of the adjacent building. City Treasurer Nancy Winkler has lead the initiative to have a park built on the location. Her daughter, 24-year-old Anne Bryan, was one of the victims. A man shot himself inside the lobby of a South Jersey hospital today. The man walked into the emergency room of the Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury, NJ around 11:40am and shot himself without a word. The unidentified man survived the shot and was transferred to the trauma unit of Cooper University Medical Center in Camden. The gun was recovered and no evacuations or lockdown was necessary. Police are still investigating the incident.

UPDATE: The unidentified 26-year-old man wanted to commit suicide in front of his girlfriend who works at the medical center. He was given immediate treatment before being flown to Cooper. He'd died at 5:15 pm.

A New York hunter has been fined by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for a mutilated animal found in a North Philadelphia lot earlier this month. The remains of a bobcat were discovered in a vacant lot at 31st and Jefferson Streets in Brewerytown on March 10th. Pennsylvania Game Commission officer Jerry Czech said the man legally hunted the bobcat in upstate New york last month. He then brought the 55-lb animal to Philadelphia where his son lives to skin it for taxidermy. The man then improperly disposed of the carcass by dumping it in the lot. He also failed to get it tagged when he crossed state lines. The fines could be $250 to $500. He may also face fines in New York.
