Coatesville Teen Recovering From Stray Bullet, Fast Food Worker Rally, Unwelcome Wyncote Wawa

Coatesville Police say 14-year-old Victor Wilson of Coatesville who lives at the 500 block of Victoria Drive heard gun shots Tuesday evening. When Wilson walked to the window to see, he was hit in the stomach by a stray bullet. Wilson, a freshman at Coatesville High School, was rushed to Paoli Hospital while police searched the neighborhood.

An enthusiastic group of fast food workers rallied outside of a North Philadelphia McDonald’s Tuesday to show support for class action suits filed against the company in Michigan, California and New York. Plaintiffs in those cases claim the hamburger giant steals employee pay. For the first time, Philadelphia area fast food workers are throwing their fists up to join in the national battle for higher wages and the right to form a union. State Senator Daylin Leach spoke at the rally and told fast food workers to unionize and put pressure on lawmakers to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania.

Wawa’s unwelcome in Wyncote. That’s the message from a group of 50 homeowners that could be staring down the barrel of a super Wawa in their front yards. Right now this parcel of land sits empty and some developers see it as a prime spot for a Wawa. There’s a petition against a proposal now in front of the Cheltenham Zoning Hearing Board. If a zoning variance is okayed, the Wawa would sit off Limekiln Pike and Ogontz Avenue — and in front of the Wyngate community in Wyncote.
