NJ Daycare Heroin Bust, Affordable Care Act Debate, DeCoatsworth Changes Guilty Plea

Police have arrested a father after 48 packets of heroin were found in his 2-year-old son’s jacket at a northern New Jersey daycare center. An employee at Michael's Energy Factory in Paterson made the discovery. Police say there’s no indication the child knew the drugs were in his pocket or that other children were exposed to the heroin. Police have charged the father with child endangerment.

A debate on the Affordable Care Act, was held Wednesday in Philadelphia. The World Affairs Council sponsored the debate between former Senator Bill Frist, former Obama administration adviser Zeke Emanuel, Jefferson University president Steve Klasko and Blue Cross chief Dan Hilferty. Though each was coming from a very different perspective, Klasko says they got to the same place. The disagreement was about how big a role government should play in those goals but even Senator Frist says neither the public nor the private sector alone has the answer.

A former decorated Philadelphia police officer caught up in trouble wants to withdraw a guilty plea that would have resulted in more serious charges against him withdrawn. Two weeks ago, 28-year-old Richard DeCoatsworth entered the guilty plea on simple assault, promoting prostitution and a drug charge. Now, he’s changed his mind, against the advice of his lawyer, and wants to go to trial, knowing full well that more than 20-more serious charges, including rape and aggravated assault, are back on the table. The defendant’s mother, Evelyn DeCoatsworth says he wants to go to trial to bring out details of what really happened.
