Woman Found At 30th St.; Woman Charged with Election Fraud; City Council Overrides Nutter Veto

A woman was found dead inside a car near 30th Street Station this morning. Police were called to S. 30th street between Market and Chestnut for a report of an unresponsive woman. They found a 22-year-old woman inside a black Nissan. She was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no apparent signs of foul play or cause of death. Authorities are continuing to investigate.

UPDATE: The woman has been identified as missing 22-year-old Nadia Malik of Broomall. Nadia had been missing since February 9th. Marple police had been searching for the 2007 Nissan Altima. A passerby had recognized the vehicle parked near 30th Street Station from the Delaware County Daily Times and called Marple Police. The vehicle had heavily tinted windows and may even have been snow covered. Philadelphia police say that the car had been in that spot for over a week. It was parked illegally and had around 8 tickets from the PPA on the windshield. Authorities are trying to determine if Malik was in the car that entire time.

A Philadelphia woman is facing multiple charges for election tampering in the November 5, 2013 election. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office announced today that 65-year-old Dianah Gregory has been charged with Fraud by Election Officers, Tampering with Records, Criminal Mischief, and Tampering with Voting Machines. Gregory was caught entering voting booths at Ethel Allen School polling site located at 31st and Lehigh Avenue and writing her name in for voters. She admitted to putting her name in the â€œwrite-inâ€ vote so voters would know how to spell her name.

Philadelphia City Council has overridden a veto by Mayor Nutter that could lift the requirement that elected city officials retire before running for a different office such as mayor. Nutter's position is that the â€œresign-to-runâ€ provision of the City Charter should stay. It ensures that the civic duties of the candidate get done, which otherwise would be clouded by the distractions of running a campaign for office. City Council disagrees comparing Philadelphia to other cities and the state where no such provision exists. The final say lies in the hands of voters. The question of removing the provision will appear most likely on the May ballot.
