Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs Named Broadcasters; PPA Smart Cards Phase Out; Death Ruled Homocide

The Phillies and Comcast announced today that two former players from the 2008 World Series Championship team will be coming back to Philadelphia. Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs will be joining the television broadcast team of Tom McCarthy and Gregg Murphy. Moyer played 26 seasons in the Majors earning 269 wins as a pitcher. He's a local product from Souderton, Montgomery County and he attended St. Joseph's University. Matt Stairs played 19 seasons of major league baseball. He is most remembered for hitting the home run in the 2008 NLDS on the way to the World Series. Moyer and Stairs are filling the spots left open after Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews were let got last month.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority has plans to phase out use of its Smart Cards by year's end. Customers who use pre-paid smart cards to pay for parking at meters or kiosks only have until December 31st to use them up. The PPA will stop selling the cards on May 30th. High production costs and declining usage are cited as reasons for the decision. At one point they were selling $3 million worth per year, last year the PPA sold less than $300,000. Credit cards are accepted at PPA kiosks, but outside of Center City where some 6000 meters took the smart cards, you'll have to remember to start to carry some change.

The death of an elderly woman in Lansdowne, PA has been ruled a homicide. On February 5th, neighbors of 89-year-old Bruna Cossavella, contacted her son, Reverend Anthony Cossavella, a priest at nearby St. Andrews in Drexel Hill, because they were concerned. When Cossavella went to his mother's house on the 100 block of E. Plumstead Avenue he found her at the bottom of the basement steps in a large pool of blood. The medical examiner found stab wounds to her neck. There were no signs on forced entry. Lansdowne Police currently have no leads.
