The lawyer for the fired Port Authority official in the George Washington Bridge scandal says that Gov. Christie knew about the closures back in September as they were happening. A letter today from David Wildstein‘s lawyer said that there is evidence that ties Christie to having knowledge of the closures and that it was “the Christie administration’s order.†Wildstein also calls into question the accuracy of statements made by the Governor during his two hour press conference a few weeks ago. Christie maintains that he knew nothing of the closures until an investigation was opened.
A South Jersey couple was sentenced today after admitted to stealing $2.6 million from customers who bought fake vacation travel club memberships. 41-year-old Daryl Turner was sentenced to prison for seven years and his wife, 43-year-old Robyn Bernstein, received five years of probation. There were also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2.6 million. They plead guilty in August to theft by deception. The couple ran 8 travel companies over 4 years, shuttering them when complaints started only to open a new one. They promised steep discounts on high end vacation packages, but never delivered the services, cheating hundreds of customers. They will have to have to sell off their mansion, cars, boat, and open the bank account to pay off the restitution.
The spectacle, the debauchery, the revelry, the gluttony! It is a uniquely Philadelphia tradition that sells out the Wells Fargo Center very early in the morning on the Friday before the Super Bowl. The Wing Bowl attracts all kinds, from the babes to the beer bellies, and plenty of drunk, rowdy, and irreverent. There are also those there just to take in the show. Of course there are the eating professionals with names like Super Squibb, The Bear, Polish Punisher, or Eagle's center Jason Kelce. This year's winner, on paper, would not seem to be even the longest shot. Molly Schuyler, 5'7â€, 125 lbs, mother of 4 from Omaha, NE took home the crown with a record 363 chicken wings, smashing the old record by 26. She tgets the $22,000 top prize and a gold ring. It's back to work tomorrow though heading to Des Moines for the IHOP Pancake Bowl and the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival both on Saturday. That's a big brunch.
Tonight,
Partly Cloudy, Temperatures falling through the 30's in Center City |
