An early morning fire on Saturday in Cape May severely damaged a historic bed and breakfast. Firefighters from the Cape May City Fire Department first responded to the Bedford Inn at 805 Stockton Ave at 5:30 a.m. The blaze was brought under control by 7 a.m. The inn was unoccupied at the time. The building was built in 1883. Officials have yet to determine a cause of the fire, but do not consider it suspicious.

A gas leak forced over a dozen residents out of their homes in Kensington late this snowy afternoon. The leak was first reported at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon on the 3300 block of I Street. Authorities had to evacuate 15 people from 5 different homes along the block. A Philadelphia Gas Works spokeswoman said that a main pipe had cracked. Crews are working to fix the problem. Meanwhile, the Salvation Army is assisting the residents who were displaced from their homes.

Three people are confirmed dead, including the suspected gunman, in a shooting inside the Columbia Mall in Howard County, MD. Five more were injured as crowds rushed to safety. The suspect's body was found near a shotgun and ammunition. He had apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He also had a bag of “crude” explosives. The two victims have been identified as Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park, Md. and Tyler Johnson, 25, originally of Ellicott City, Md. and more recently of Mt. Airy, Md. Both were employees of Zumiez. The Mall in Columbia is located between Baltimore and Washington, DC. It will remain closed on Sunday.

A South Jersey woman has been sentenced for diverting hundreds of checks meant for her employer to her own account. 43-year-old Victoria Geremonte of Brick, NJ received a 5-year state prison sentence and was ordered to pay $393,162 in restitution. Prosecutors say she diverted 381 checks payable to the Lakewood-based oil tank removal company she worked for to an account she owned. She plead guilty to the theft charges after she was arrested in October 2012.
