Widener University Student Shot on Campus; Gunman at Large; Students told to stay inside

A student has been shot on the campus of Widener University near the Schwartz Athletic Center in Chester, Delaware County. It happened at around 9 p.m in the vicinity of 18th Street and Melrose Avenue. The student was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center for treatment but their condition is unknown at this time. The gunman is still at large. Widener University is asking students to stay indoors until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The K-9 unit has been called to the scene as Chester Police expands its search for the suspect. No description of the shooter is available at this time. They have secured the campus, and believe there is no active shooter on campus. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video in the area. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact 610-447-7908.

A message on the Widener University's website reads:
"A Widener University student was shot in the vicinity of Schwartz Athletic Center Monday evening, January 20. The student is currently under treatment at Crozer Chester Medical Center. His family has been notified . We are not releasing the name of the injured student at this time.

The suspect is still at large. Chester Police have secured the campus, and Chester Police believe there is no active shooter on campus.

Anyone who has any information about the shooting, please contact 610-447-7908.

Students should remain indoors until 6 a.m."
