Chris Christie Apologizes, Fires Top Aide; Penn State Hires Franklin; Kevin Hart Ice Cube in Philly

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie held a lengthly press conference today in response to the growing scandal surrounding the discovery that traffic closures on ramps to the George Washington Bridge were done as political payback for Fort Lee NJ's mayor not endorsing Christie's re-election. Christie maintained that he did not have any knowledge of his administration's involvement but would take responsibility. "I come out here to apologize to the people of New Jersey," he said. "I am embarrassed and humiliated." He fired his deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly. He also asked Bill Stepien, his former campaign manager, to withdraw from consideration for state GOP chairman. Stepien will no longer continue to consult for the National Republican Governorâ€™s Association which Christie is chair. Christie paid visit to the offices of Mayor Mark Sokolich in Fort Lee to apologize in person, despite Sokolich's request not to come.

Penn State has hired 41-year-old James Franklin to be the new head football coach. Former coach Bill Oâ€™Brien left to become the coach of the Houston Texans of the NFL. Franklin was the coach of Vanderbilt since 2011. He has held various coaching positions at the college and NFL levels since 1995. Franklin is a native of Langhorne and went to Neshaminy High School.

Philadelphia native Kevin Hart and co-star Ice Cube were making the rounds in the city today after the premiere of their new movie â€œRide Alongâ€ at the Pearl Theatre in North Philadelphia last night. First, they crashed Sixers practice at PCOM. They dropped in the check out the guys and have a chat with head coach Brett Brown. At 11:30, Hart sent out a tweet announcing their next plans. He told fans to head to 4th & South where they'll be handing out free cheese steaks from 2:30-3pm. A large crowd was already gathered when they arrived at Jim's Steaks. Both Hart and Cube took over the grill and handed out the free steaks personally. The movie "Ride Along" opens in theatres on January 17.
