Flooding Causes Deadly Crash on I-76; Upper Darby Officers Cleared; Blake Bills Sentenced

25-year-old Blake Bills was sentenced today in a Philadelphia courtroom to 2 Â½ to 10 years in prison for his actions in a highly publicized rampage back in March 2013. It involved his fiance, Shayna Sykes, two stolen police cars and a high-speed chase between New Jersey and Philadelphia. On March 5th, after a three day drug binge, the couple was left strung out and their car broken down in Camden. They saw a police cruiser stopped and open, the officer out writing a ticket. They hopped in and took off, hitting and injuring the officer's leg. They led NJ police on a high speed chase through Camden and over the Ben Franklin Bridge into Philly where they crashed in North Philadelphia. Bills was arrested at that point, however, Sykes jumped in a Philadelphia officer's car and took off again, swiping cars and nearly hitting pedestrians. Bills plead guilty last month. Sykes plead guilty and was sentenced on September 30th to 3â€“8 years. The two have a 16-month-old daughter together. Bills will also have to face charges in New Jersey.

The Delaware County District Attorney's office has cleared two Upper Darby police officers accused of assault. D.A. Jack Whelan said there was insufficient evidence that officers Michael Givens, 39, and Ryan Wisely, 32, violated any criminal statutes. Earlier this month, the two officers were reinstated to their jobs following an arbitration panel's ruling. They were fired in July after an allegation of assault. The incident occurred in the cell block area of the station and involved a juvenile arrested for shoplifting. Video evidence exists but has never been released. This matter is now considered closed.

Flooding has been blamed for a chain-reaction crash on the Schuylkill Expressway this morning that left one person dead. It happened near the Montgomery Ave. exit at 4:30 am just as the heaviest rains were sweeping through the area. Pennsylvania State Police say an Audi travelling in the westbound lanes hit a pool of standing water, spun out, and hit a concrete barrier. A white minivan was able to stop to avoid the Audi. However, a tractor trailer, wasn't able to stop and slammed into the minivan which then hit the car. 47-year-old Handy Gunawan of Philadelphia, a passenger in the van, was killed. The crash and flooding had lanes blocked for most of the morning.
