Nutter Allows School Fund Plan, SEPTA Conductor Attack, Adobe Major Hack Revealed

Mayor Michael Nutter drops his opposition to a City-Council passed plan to sell vacant school buildings to raise much needed cash for the Philadelphia School District. The Mayor gathered with Council President Darrell Clarke and several members of City Council late Wednesday afternoon to announce he had reached what he labeled a compromise on the school fund plan. Essentially, the city will put up $50 million and work with the school district to help it sell vacant properties.

SEPTA says conductor Gregory Kelly Sr. has surrendered to police, charged with attacking a passenger aboard a SEPTA Regional Rail train at Suburban Station. The 28 year veteran employee faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The 50-year-old conductor, who has been temporarily removed from duty, lives in Montgomery Township. The alleged victim says the conductor apparently became enraged after he accidentally brushed against him as he was boarding the train, began screaming at him, punching him and trying to choke him.

The software maker behind Photoshop and Acrobat admitted earlier this month that it had been the victim of a serious hack. Adobe reports nearly 40 million customer accounts have been compromised.
Besides the source code to some of Adobe’s biggest-selling products, criminals also got their hands on users’ critical details. While Adobe says it’s notifying people who are affected, it’s time for anyone who’s had an account with the company to beef up the rest of their web security.
