Allen Iverson to Retire a Sixer; NJ Supreme Court Denies Marriage Stay; MontCo Teen Shooting

Allen Iverson will finally be hanging up the sneakers. AI will officially announce his retirement from professional basketball on October 30th before the 76ers home opener versus the Miami Heat. He will be honored that night chosing to go out as Sixer right where his career started. Iverson was selected first overall out of Georgetown in the 1996 draft. That year he won Rookie of the Year. The small guard (6' 0â€) was known for his scrappy play and prolific scoring winning 4 scoring titles throughout his NBA career. A perennial All-Star, Iverson led the Sixers to the 2000-01 NBA Finals losing to Los Angeles Lakers. He won the NBA MVP that year. He ranks 6th overall in ppg in the regular season. In 2006 he was traded to the Denver Nuggets. He also spent time in Detroit and Memphis but didn't enjoy the bench role. He eventually made it back to Philadelphia in December '09 leaving in February '10. The last time he played professional basketball was for BeÅŸiktaÅŸ, Turkey in 2010.

The New Jersey Supreme Court denied Chris Christie's administration's request to stay the start of same-sex marriage on October 21st pending an appeal. The court stated "that the public interest does not favor a stay." The decision was unanimous. In September, Judge Mary Jacobson ordered that banning same-sex marriages would be unconstitutional after the federal government began giving equal benefits. An appeal of that decision will be heard in January. In the meantime, New Jersey same-sex couples can begin to marry on Monday. Several townships have begun to receive requests for licenses. New Jersey has a 72-hour waiting period between license and ceremony.

A teenager in Montgomery County was rushed to the hospital this afternoon after being shot in the head inside his own home. According to police the shooting took place on the 2300 block of Mulberry Lane in Lafayette Hill, Pa. around 3:30 p.m. A 15-year-old had taken out guns that were stored in his home and was showing them to a friend in the kitchen. While they were handling one of them, it went off, grazing the him in the head. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital. His condition is unknown. Police are investigating the incident.
