Time to Raise PA Speed Limit?; Mother Sentenced For Fake Cancer; Philly Charter School Closes

A top Pennsylvania state senator thinks it is time that we increase the maximum speed limit on highways from 65 to 70 miles per hour. Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati said that he plans to introduce legislature that will allow for the higher speeds. He says the higher speed limits would allow traffic to flow easier and the delivery of goods to be more efficient. 34 other states allow at least 70 mph and 16 of those allow 75 mph. Highway studies would have to be conducted to determine where it would make sense to raise the speeds. Pennsylvania started using 65 miles per hour in 1995.

A New Jersey mother has been sentenced to 3 years probation for claiming her 9-year-old son had cancer in order to raise money. Susan Stillwaggon, 35, of Pennsauken, pled guilty Friday to theft by deception and will also perform 75 hours of community service and reimburse one victim $375. Stillwaggon fabricated a story that her son had Hodgkinâ€™s lymphoma and held several fundraisers for him raising several thousand dollars. She was able to convince her son that he was sick for several months as well as others in the community until administrators at his school began to become suspicious and confronted her. Stillwaggon may still have to repay others restitution. If you believe you are owed money contact the Camden County Assistant Prosecutor at 856-225-8400 within the next 60 days in order to be eligible to be repaid for any donations.

A Philadelphia charter school unexpectedly closed its doors Friday. The Solomon Charter School at 12th and Vine in Center City announced it's closing with a message on the school's website citing safety concerns and financial instability. The school had an enrollment had of around 200 students. The schools website has instructions for parent's on how they can pick up their child's records, return computers, and whom to contact with questions. Solomon was chartered by the state as a cyber school.
