Three Day Walk for Breast Cancer, Parent Complaints on Schools, Grant Money for Phila Waterfront

They will walk 60 miles to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. This morning 1.200 participants in the Three Day Walk for The Cure started at the Willow Grove Mall. Some are walking in memory of a loved one lost to breast cancer. All are fighting for advancement against cancer. They will wind their way across the city over the next 3 days and finish at the Navy Yard.

Parents of Philadelphia schoolchildren shared complaints about the cash strapped school system here. At a press conference at City Hall yesterday 260 letters detailed deficiencies that violate state or federal laws. By law, every complaint must be investigated by the education department. According to Parents United, another 130 letters will be submitted by today.

Another $5 million in grant money is headed to the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation from the William Penn Foundation. The money will be used to fund the construction of the permanent Delaware River Trail between Washington Avenue and Pier 70. Also planned are improvements at Pier 68 and the West Ship Yard site at Vine Street.
