Parents Blamed in Emaciated Toddler Death; Scuba Diver Died in Quarry; Fatal Car Truck Tractor Crash

Authorities are blaming the parents after an emaciated 3-year-old girl died overnight at Einstein Medical Center. The girl, Nathalyz Rivera, was brought the the hospital shortly before 2 am. She weighed-in at only 11 pounds, instead of a normal 25-36 pounds. The medical examiner said that she showed "obvious signs of neglect" and ruled the death homicide through starvation. The girl's father, Carlos Rivera, 30, found Nathalyz unresponsive at their home on the 300 block of Sommers Road around midnight. Instead of calling 911 he called the mother who was visiting a friend. They came and took the girl to the hospital were she died. The West Oak Lane couple have four other children ages nine, eight, seven, and the three-year-old girl's twin. They have been placed in protective care. Investigators describe the home as being in despicable condition. Nathalyz also had disabilities but not had seen a doctor for a long time. Police have now located and taken the father into custody, and plan on charging the couple in their daughter's death.

A scuba diver from Connecticut died over the weekend while diving at a former quarry in Northampton County. The man was first reported at 11:30 pm on Saturday at the Dutch Springs scuba center. Bethlehem Township emergency crews responded and found 46-year-old Izydor Poplawski at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. The death was ruled an accidental drowning. A man from North Jersey also died at the former cement quarry back on August 18th. Around 30,000 divers visit the popular dive spot in Lower Nazareth Township each year.

A person is dead in a crash that involved a car, tanker truck, and a farm tractor. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 73 and Blue Anchor Road in Winslow Township, Camden County. Police say that the truck, which was carrying an empty liquid nitrogen tank, hit the tractor that was on the side of the road. The truck then hit the a white car. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating.
