Chester Vehicle Accident Kills Child, FEMA NJ Flood Maps, U.S. Open at Merion Reviews

One child is dead after two children were struck by a vehicle in Chester this afternoon. The incident happened at W. 9th Street and Highland Avenue. There is no word on the identity of the victim or additional injuries at this time.

The newest FEMA flood maps show many in Brigantine are in a less hazardous flood zone that is not threatened by waves. FEMA's updated flood maps released this week scaled back the number of homes in the worst flood zones down the shore. That makes flood insurance more affordable. And that makes raising the homes less expensive since they do not have to be as high. In the flood maps released after Sandy, 2,700 homes were added to the highest risk areas. In the new maps, that number is down to about 50 homes. FEMA reduced the highest risk flood areas in Atlantic County by 80%, in Ocean County by 45%, and in Monmouth County by 46%. Life near the Merion Golf Club is slowly returning to normal, after last night’s conclusion of the US Open. It took three months to build the small city of tents and equipment around the Merion Golf Club, and US Open Championship director Hank Thompson says it’ll be two more months until it’s all disassembled. The tournament is getting good reviews from Haverford Township officials. There were no arrests.
