South Street Shooting, Camden Crash Shooting, Lung Transplant Sought

Authorities say a man was arrested after shooting into a crowd along South Street and then firing shots at police themselves, Sunday along the 600 block of South Street. Police say 42-year-old Isaac Carmichael threatened three victims during an argument in which the suspect had tried to make a pass at one of the females. When the victims asked the suspect to leave them alone, police say he became verbally abusive, grabbed one of the women and showed his gun. They say Carmichael then began walking away from the three individuals, only to turn around and fire one shot towards them. Carmichael has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related charges.

Camden County prosecutors say a man who was shot in his car in Camden tried to drive away but instead crashed a short distance away. Mark Gonzalez of Camden was found around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the driverâ€™s seat of his car at 10th and Linden streets. But investigators believe the 22-year-old Gonzalez was shot somewhere in the 400 block of North 9th Street. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at a hospital around 3 a.m. But itâ€™s not yet known if he died from his gunshot wounds, or injuries he sustained in the crash or both.

Relatives of a 10-year-old girl who they say has been denied a life-saving lung transplant because of her age are appealing to the public in hopes of finding a donor to save their child. Sarah Murnaghan, has end-stage cystic fibrosis and has been unable to leave Childrenâ€™s Hospital of Philadelphia for three months, needing a ventilator to breathe. The child is a top candidate for an organ from a pediatric donor but few are available, and family members say that under existing policy, a lung from an adult donor would be offered first to all adults in the region, even those more stable and with less severe conditions. Relatives launched a campaign for a change in the policy after their appeal was denied.
