Woman Hid Husband in Closet 6 years; Philly Career Fare Shut Down; Public School Students March

A Ventnor, NJ woman has been charged with the murder of her husband who disappeared 6 years ago. Loretta Doyle Burroughs, 61, was arrested for the murder of Daniel Burroughs, 66, on Friday. The cold case was reopened in February when Police were contacted by family members of Daniel Boroughs. Daniel went missing without a trace in September of 2007 from Mays Landing, NJ where the couple lived. Loretta soon moved to Ventnor. Today investigators executed a search warrants for Loretta Burroughs' home in Ventnor and a home she was planning to move to in Cape May County. They found human remains in a closet at her home in Ventnor positively identified as those of Daniel Burroughs. An autopsy is pending.

The City of Philadelphia had to shut down a career fair this afternoon after an overwhelming number of job seekers showed up. The job fair in Center City was designed to help ex-offenders in locating a job. Last year only 1,000 people came to the Municipal Services Building across from City Hall for the event and 435 walked away with a job. This year three times as many people crowded in front of the building waving resumes after word of the event spread through social media. It was quickly shutdown because of safety concerns. The event is going to be rescheduled at the Convention Center so there is enough space to handle the number of people. Potential employers were just as disappointed as job seekers, 25 were on hand ready to hire.

Thousands of Philadelphia public school students left classes this afternoon and marched in front of School District headquarters on North Broad Street to protest proposed education budget cuts. They chanted "Save Our Schools" and "No education, no lifeâ€ while blocking traffic along the route. Budget deficits in the next fiscal year could mean drastic cuts to music, art, and sports programs along with reduction in counselor and nursing staffs. The district has asked for $60 from the city and $120 from the state. Mayor Nutter has proposed a drink/smoke tax that would provide some money to the schools.
