TV Falls on 2-year-old Boy; Bishop McFadden Funeral; Roy Halladay to have surgery

A young child was injured in the Cedarbrook section of Philadelphia when a large television fell on him. Police were called to the 1100 block of East Sydney Street in Cedarbrook at around 4pm. A 40 inch tube-style TV had toppled over and fell on a 2-year-old boy. He suffered head injuries and was in critical condition. He was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Funeral services were held today for Roman Catholic Bishop Joseph McFadden in Harrisburg. He died last Thursday of a heart attack. 1,700 mourners packed Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, where Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput presided over Wednesday's more than two-hour service. McFadden was the leader of the Diocese of Harrisburg and some 250,000 Catholics in Central Pennsylvania. A native of Philadelphia, McFadden was ordained in 1981 by Cardinal John Krol. He served as administrative secretary to Cardinal Krol from 1982-1993. He then became the first president of Cardinal O'Hara High School. While serving as pastor of St. Joseph's in Downingtown, McFadden was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by Pope John Paul II on June 28, 2004. There will be a memorial mass in Philadelphia on May 22, 2013, on what would have been Bishop McFadden's 66th birthday.

Roy Halladay will need surgery to fix a bone spur on his right shoulder. The Phillies starting right-hander visited a doctor in Los Angeles on Tuesday for tests. The results were not as bad as imagined, but the Cy Young winner will have to spend an extended stay on the disabled list. There is no time table set for his surgery or his return but, Halladay seemed optimistic today at a press conference that he could return to pitch later this season. The surgery would be minimally invasive, a â€œscope and cleanâ€ procedure, referring to the arthroscopic procedure to remove the bone spur. Some feared that the 35-year-old might have career ending news to deliver, but it doesn't seem to be the case, however Halladay himself did not leave out the possibility that doctors might find worse damage once they have the cameras inside his shoulder.
