Gosnell Defense Rests; Teacher Urinates in Class; Road Rage Arrest in ChestCo; Chestnut Hill Fall

The defense quickly rested in the Murder Trial of West Philadelphia Abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell on Wednesday. Gosnell's defense attorney closed their case today after not calling a single witness, including the doctor himself, nor presenting anything new to the court. Defense attorney Jack McMahon only has his own cross examination of prosecution witnesses and his upcoming closing arguments to win acquittal for his client. Those closing arguments are scheduled to begin next week with jury deliberation expected to begin sometime next week as well. Gosnell is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree murder; four other cases of first-degree murder were dismissed yesterday by Judge Jeffrey Minehart presumably for lack of sufficient evidence.

A second grade teacher in New Jersey has been fired for urinating into bottles and wastebaskets in the classroom only to then having students empty them in the boys bathroom. Ron Tuitt, who taught second grade for a dozen years in the Paterson Public School District, was first discovered relieving himself during classes and subsequently placed on administrative leave in November 2010. Strict tenure laws prevented further action then suspension. On Tuesday, an administrative judge ruled that his conduct was "inappropriate and unprofessional and constitutes conduct unbecoming a staff member." His tenure was revoked and Tuiit, 56, was fired. Tuitt denied the charges and said others were because of his ill condition. He does use a wheelchair.

Police have arrested a man Wednesday wanted for a violent road rage incident last week in Chester County. The incident happened on April 15th on the Route 100 exit ramp off of Route 30 Eastbound in Exton. The West Whiteland Township Police Department has arrested 36-year-old Brian Burke and charged him with charged with robbery, theft, and assault. The victim says that after exiting the highway Burke got enraged. While waiting for the green light he got out of his truck, went up to the victim yelling, punched her in the face and took her glasses. Police released a description of the suspect, his 80's era Dodge Ram 50 pick-up, and a sketch. An anonymous tip led them to Burke. He is being held on $75,000 bail.

An undergraduate was injured this afternoon at Chestnut Hill College after falling 3 stories from a building on campus. Authorities say the student fell from an outside stairwell near Fournier Hall at around 3 p.m. He was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center with a neck injury. The school released a statement saying, "We urge all the members of the college community and the public to keep this student . . . in our thoughts and prayers at this time."
