Darby Grocery Store Fire; 7-month-old stabbed in Germantown; Burlington Wawa Credit Card Skim Scam

Firefighters in Darby, Delaware County spent Saturday morning battling a 3-alarm blaze at a grocery store. The fire broke out at around 6 a.m. at the Liberia Waterside Market on the 800 block of Main Street. Heavy smoke and flames billowed from the market and several walls collapsed inside. Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. The Red Cross set up at the Darby Recreation Center for evacuated residents. SEPTA terminated service on the Route 11 Trolley. Shuttle bus service is running between Island and Woodland Avenues. The fire was brought under control around noon.

A 20-year-old Germantown man is under arrest for stabbing his 7-month-old son. The incident happened yesterday on the 6200 block of Chew Avenue at around 2:30. The mother and father were engaged in a physical and vertical fight. During the fight the baby was stabbed in the head by 20-year-old Samuel Jones. The parents took him to Einstein Hospital where he was transported to St. Christopher's by medics. The infant is listed in critical condition. Jones has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare, recklessly endangering another , simple assault and related offenses.

At least 25 people have fallen victim to a card skimming scam at a Wawa gas station in Burlington Township, New Jersey. It all happened at a Wawa gas station on the 1800 block of Salem Road. Some of the victims quickly noticed erroneous charges on their corporate credit cards because they only use them to gas up company vehicles at that specific Wawa, but then started to get other charges from around the country. The scam worked because in New Jersey every gas station is full service. When you hand you card to the attendant he would swipe the card in a skimmer before using it in the pump. Wawa was able to identify the guilty service attendant in this case from surveillance. Christopher Williams of Burlington Township is accused of using a skimming device to swipe credit card information from several customers over the last four to six weeks. Three of his accomplices, who do not work at Wawa, were also caught. The best way to protect yourself is to be vigilant when you hand over your card and to check your account often.
