Made In America 2013 Lineup Set; Underage Drinking Crackdown at Phillies; Toomey Brokers Gun Deal

The majority of the line up for this summer's Made in America Festival was announced this afternoon. Just as last year, the concert bill is an eclectic mix of rap and hip hop artists, rock bands, and electronic/dj acts. Some of the biggest names to grace the stage this year will be Beyonce (show producer Jay-Z's wife), Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, DeadMau5, and Public Enemy. Other rock acts include Walk the Moon, Phoenix, The Gaslight Anthem, Imagine Dragons, and Fitz and The Tantrums. Rappers A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have also been announced. The festival will be held Labor Day Weekend August 31 â€“ September 1 along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

Police are cracking down on underage drinking outside of Phillies games in South Philadelphia. The crackdown last night, Tuesday April 9th, before the game against the visiting Mets resulted in 61 citations. The Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Enforcement is conducting the sting operations, sending plain clothes officers through the parking lots outside of Citizens' Bank Park. They roamed the lots from around 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. last night. 59 minors between 18 and 20 were cited for consuming or possessing alcohol, 2 juveniles under18 were also cited. They say the effort will continue all season.

A compromise has been brokered by Republican US Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) over expanded background checks during gun purchases in the United States. Under the new measure, background checks would now be required for purchases made at gun shows and over the internet, but they would not be required for private guns sales. "I don't consider criminal background checks to be gun control," said Toomey. "I think it's just common sense." The NRA issued a statement saying, "Expanding background checks at gun shows will not prevent the next shooting, will not solve violent crime and will not keep our kids safe in schools.â€ They urged policymakers to instead look at the mental health system and gang violence. The measure will have to be approved in the Senate as part of the new gun control bill.
