NJ Tanning Mom Not Indicted; Two More Chester Teens Plead Guilty; Fake Valets Steal Cars in Philly

A New Jersey grand jury has refused to indict the woman known as "tanning mom" who was accused of endangering her daughter after she allegedly brought her to a tanning salon. 44-year-old Patricia Krentcil of Nutley, NJ was arrested last April for violating the state law banning use of tanning salons for children under 14. School officials noticed burns on Krentcil's 5-year-old daughter and notified police. Krentcil said that her daughter just got a natural sun burn from being outside and that she'd never put her in a tanning booth. The case gained national attention because of the unusually deep tan of Krentcil herself and her propensity for visiting tanning salons. After being presented with all the evidence from the state and defense, the Newark, NJ grand jury voted not to indict Mrs. Krentcil.

Two more teenagers, out of six, have plead guilty to the September beating of a mentally disabled woman in Chester. Takia Nicole Edwards, 19, and Janyea Bell, 16, appeared in Delaware County Court on Tuesday and and plead guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and to endanger another. Bell got a sentence of six to 23 months in prison, plus probation, anger management counseling, and an order to stay away from the victim. The same deal was handed down to Jasmir Womack, 17, and Rahmiyah Henderson, 16. Edwards' was similar except her prison term is nine to 23 months. Charges are still pending against Jamia Davis, 15, and Anye Dennis, 16. All six girls were arrested after they attacked Della Sheerer, 48. The beating started on her front step and spilled into her home. The vicious incident was recorded on video and posted to the Internet.

Fake valets have been stealing cars from Center City garages. Two separate incidents have occurred in the past week. Philadelphia Police do not know if they are related. The first happened at a garage near 19th and JFK. A woman handed over the keys to her 2007 Toyota Camry to a man standing at the garage acting like a valet who then drove off with the car. That suspect was described as a black man wearing a black coat, dark jeans and a dark hat. On Friday, near 15th and Sansom another man pretending to be a valet handing a woman a ticket and got into her 2013 Toyota Rav4 SUV. When she noticed it was expired he said there was a new system for issuing tickets and drove away. He is described as a black man between 30 - 40, about 5' 7â€ - 5' 9â€ and weighing 140 - 170 lbs. He was wearing a black jacket, a black wool cap and glasses. Neither car has been found. Parking companies say that their employees all wear uniforms or at least a name badge, and most have coats and hats that identify themselves as employees of the garage. Double check before you hand off your keys.
