Some Facebook Users are saying they're mysteriously getting locked out of their own accounts, and are asked to provide a government issued photo ID. The site sometimes suspects certain accounts are violating Facebook's terms and conditions for things like the user being younger than 13 years old, bullying, posting inappropriate content and copyright violations. As for requiring photo ID, Facebook says they delete the data following verification. Facebook can’t explain why there’s been a rash of issues, but they did update their terms and conditions in December. Facebook's software automatically picks up when terms are violated, but they won’t tell users exactly what term they violated because Facebook doesn’t want people to game the system.
The Pentagon says New Jersey could face nearly $78 million in Defense Department civilian payroll cuts if automatic government spending cuts kick in March 1. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told Congress on Wednesday that if a budget deal isn’t reached, he may have to shorten the workweek for the “vast majority†of the Defense Department’s 800,000 civilian workers. They’d lose one day of work per week, or 20 percent of their pay, for up to 22 weeks, probably starting in late April. Pentagon figures show its civilian payroll in New Jersey for the 2012 fiscal year was $917.9 million. That would be reduced to $840.2 million, a drop of $77.7 million, if the cuts occur. The biggest potential civilian payroll losses would be in Virginia, California, Maryland, Texas and Georgia.
Police are searching for a suspect who impersonated a city worker and stole a man’s safe containing a $25,000 coin collection and his wife’s ashes. The incident occurred on Friday, January 25 on the 9500 block of Walley Road. According to police, a man with a Hispanic accent knocked on the door of a 71-year-old’s home around 9:30 a.m., saying he needed to check the wires behind the house. The suspect allegedly kept the victim occupied for about 30 minutes while “checking his water pipes†in the back of the house before telling the victim he needed to get paperwork from his vehicle. Police say when the victim entered his home his front door, which he had locked, was open. Authorities say during a search of his home, the victim found that his large, dark green, metal safe was missing. The safe contained $4,000, a $25,000 coin collection, the deed to the victim’s property, title to the victim’s vehicle, insurance paperwork, and the ashes of the victim’s deceased wife. The suspect has been described as an unshaven, white male with a medium to heavy build. He was wearing a three-quarters length dark coat with light dress pants. The vehicle he used has been described as a late-model, silver minivan and may be a Chrysler. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 215-686-3153.
