Police say the owner of a Northeast Philadelphia deli shot and killed a robbery suspect during an exchange of gunfire. It happened around 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Anna's Deli along the 4400 block of Princeton Avenue in the Tacony section of the city. Police say a 19-year-old man, armed with a handgun, ran into the deli demanding money, he stuck his gun in the face of the 53-year-old woman behind the counter and began pulling cash out of the register. The frightened woman screamed, which alerted her 54-year-old husband, who was in the back of the store. Authorities say the suspect fired at least one shot at the store owner, who then returned fire with his 9mm beretta handgun. The suspect was shot once in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men were arrested Tuesday evening after an apparent case of road rage left two elderly victims injured. The incident started shortly before 4 p.m. at 54th and City Avenue in the city’s Wynnefield section when one car struck another car from behind, fled the scene, and then crashed head on into a car along the 2200 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue. A 90-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman inside the car were injured. After an argument, the driver of the Buick fled on foot into a nearby grocery store, and the 29-year-old in the Nissan began chasing him with a knife. The two men were apprehended by police a short time later. The two elderly victims were taken to Hahnemann Hospital. The man was listed in serious condition and was being treated for injuries to his ribs and chest. The woman was listed in stable condition.
