Man Arrested after SEPTA Attack (Video); Woman Was Beaten and Thrown on Tracks

SEPTA Police announced an arrest of a suspect in an attack on a train platform Tuesday. They also released surveillance video of the viscous attack. It occurred after 3 pm on the Northbound platform of the Broad Ridge-Spur station in Chinatown. The man asked the woman to borrow a lighter. Moments later he lunged at her and began to beat her. He then grabbed her by the ankles and dragged he across the platform before tossing her onto the tracks. He made off with her cell phone.

The victim was able to climb back onto the platform from the tracks and only suffered minor bumps and bruises. She feels very lucky that a train was not coming when she was on the tracks and she was able to avoid the electrified rail.

SEPTA Police were hesitant to release the video of the attack and go public with the incident right away because the attacker was wearing a very distinctive jacket. That was their best lead, and could have led to an arrest, but could also have scared away the suspect and evidence. The risk paid off. William Clark was arrested today near 15th and JFK wearing the same jacket and carrying the victim's cell phone.
