Ocean City Elderly Couple Found; Walnut St. Water Main; Philly Bike Share; Bucks County Teen Crash

This past weekend's water main break along the 1600 block of Walnut Street in Center City is still causing disruptions downtown indefinitely. The water main broke at around 4:30 Saturday afternoon and was fixed by Sunday morning, but the street is still shutdown and a large hole remains. PECO and the gas company PGW still need to determine if there was any damage to the infrastructure and make necessary repairs before the road can be repaved and opened. The busy shopping district is open for business to foot traffic for the high end retailers on the block. There is no time table for completion of the work. Retailers such as Apple, Urban Outfitters, and BCBG line this block are open. The sidewalks are clear to pass, but the unsightly mess of asphalt and rocks could be driving away the usual volume.

Mayor Nutter's administration and City Hall will be asking City Council to help fund a â€œbike shareâ€ program for Philadelphia. They will be asking for $3 million from the city, hoping to raise an additional $5-6 million from federal, state, and private sources. The plan would be to have the program in place by 2014. Riders would be able to purchase daily, monthly, or annual membership that would allow them to check out and return a bike from any bike station around the city. The payment system is still being worked out, so as not to exclude low income users without credit cards. The coverage area would go from Temple to South Street and 41st Street to the Delaware.

The elderly Ocean City couple reported missing over the weekend were located Sunday night about 90 minutes from their home at a shopping mall in Jackson Township. A security guard at the mall approached the two and asked if them needed help. John Bligh, 78, and his wife, Ellen, 70, were last seen around 3:30 p.m. Saturday leaving their home. Family told police that they sometimes get confused and may be in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. New Jersey State Police had issued a Silver Alert Sunday morning.

Authorities in Northampton, Bucks County are investigating a horiffic crash over the weekend near Old Jacksonville Road and Sackettsford Road. On Saturday afternoon around 2 pm, the silver Monte Carlo driven by LJ Tanner, 18, was on its way back from a local pizza parlor. It is believed that the car hit a bump and flipped several times before hitting a pole. Front passenger Cameron Smithwick, 19, was killed and Tanner, 18, was left in critical condition trapped in the car. The three backseat passengers were able get out of the wreckage on their own and were taken to the hospital to be treated. Smithwick was going to be a Penn State freshman and was an aspiring chef. The other teens attended Council Rock High Schools. Grief counselors were on hand today to help those cope with the loss. Tanner is at St. Mary Medical Center in critical condition with head and spine injuries.
