Paulsboro Public Meeting Cancelled; Paulsboro Evacuees Arrested at Party; Dead Pony in North Philly

A public meeting scheduled this evening regarding the Paulsboro train derailment has been postponed by officials. The public forum held at Paulsboro High School was going to involve representatives of several different agencies. The meeting was pushed back because residents who decided to stay in the evacuation zone are still being ordered to stay inside their homes due to high levels of vinyl chloride in the air as a result of the train derailment. Schools and businesses are also closed. The shelter in place order in still in effect.

Last night in the Gibbstown section of Greenwich Township, police responded to a disturbance at the Motel 6 on Swedesboro Avenue at around 10:28 pm. Upon arrival they found a large, out of control party at the motel. 14 of the motel's rooms had been rented out by Conrail to house evacuees from the Paulsboro train derailment. Police arrested 22 people including 6 juveniles and charged them all with disorderly conduct. There were also charges for possession of marijuana, crack cocaine, alcohol and narcotics paraphernalia, plus possible additional charges for maintaining a nuisance and supplying alcohol to minors. Everyone was released after being issued a summons. Most of the people arrested were from Paulsboro, while some were from Woodbury, Penns Grove and Philadelphia.

A dead pony was found this morning in North Philadelphia. Philadelphia SPCA responded to a stable in the 3200 block of North 11th Street at around 10:00 am. They found 1 dead pony and 3 emaciated horses in a ramshackle stable. The PSPCA has investigated this location before and removed two emaciated horses and two dead horses in the past few months. The ordered the owner to cease operations but obviously he defied that order. It is not illegal to own a horse in the City of Philadelphia if they are kept in proper conditions. The PSPCA anticipates to file cruelty charges in this case after their investigation.
