Threat Blogger Held for Trial; Hurricane Sandy took 30-40 ft Beach; $25 Eagles Tckts, Casey Conklin

Blogger Joshua Scott Albert sat in court today through his preliminary hearing where the targets of his online threats and facebook pages testified against him. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams and Philadelphia FOP president John McNesby both testified that at first the pages Albert created that called for their murders were perhaps at first in bad taste and repulsive quickly led to fear for their families. Albert's lawyer argued that it was just a stupid attempt to get attention and no malice was intended. He said it was just satire not felony solicitation. Albert also posted a page in support of the killers of Officer Moses Walker Jr., offering to give them 96% of the reward money if they surrendered to him. Williams said that crossed the line for him. Judge Teresa Carr Deni ordered Albert to stand trial on the charges which include criminal solicitation to commit murder, terroristic threats and harassment, leaving it up to a jury to decide what his intent was in posting these pages. Albert remains in custody in lieu of $300,000 bail.

A recent study of the New Jersey coastline after Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy shows that the average beach is 30-40 feet shorter than it was before the storm. Some of the beaches along the shore lost half their sand when the storm hit the coast. One of the worst hit areas was Mantoloking which lost 150 feet of beach. Every year there is some erosion during winter storms, but this storm took a big bite out of much of the shoreline. Federal dollars usually make up 65% of beach replenishment projects which pump sand in from offshore. These are costly projects, but do protect the towns from storms and create the beaches that bring the people. The Jersey shore powers the stateâ€™s $35.5 billion tourism industry. Unfortunately, the work and money involved in fixing the beaches can get washed out to sea just as fast as it gets fixed, it's a risk that it taken so we can head to the ocean in the summer.
