76yo Man's Main Line Kidnap Plot; PA Turnpike Going Electronic; Store Owner Shoots Robber N.Philly

Police have arrested a 76-year-old Miami, FL man in connection with an elaborate kidnap for ransom plot on the Main Line. Radnor police say John Felder attempted to abduct a Villanova resident last Wednesday. He was tracked down and arrested in the Poconos trying to buy a gun at gun show. Felder was found with evidence such as a Taser, flex cuffs, gloves, license plates and a mask. Last week during his kidnapping attempt he posed as a flower delivery man, firing a taser at the homeowner after handing off the flowers. The victim was only hit by one prong of the Taser and was able to shut the door before calling 911. Felder was tracked down because he received a parking ticket at the florist where he purchased the flowers for his rouse. The background check for the gun purchase alerted police to his location in the Poconos. He had a place rented up there, probably where he intended to keep his victim while waiting for a ransom to be paid. Police found a note demanding gold and rare coins. They believe that he also had a hit list, populated with people he believed may have money that would pay a ransom. Felder has been charged with aggravated assault. Kidnapping charges are pending.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is looking forward to completing their goal of an all electronic toll system by 2017. Turnpike officials have already commissioned a study that showed that an all electronic system would be feasible and presented to the state House and Senate Transportation Commitee's that they'll go through with the conversion. The 5 year, 2017, end date is only a goal and not set in stone. This will be a complicated process. E-ZPass will be expanded and hopefully more drivers sign up for the service. However, those without the transponders will still have electronic, non-human toll collection. Most likely images of the license plates of cash-paying drivers would be used to generate a bill that would be sent in the mail. All electronic tolls could also be used to charge different rates for different times of day, much like your electricity bill.

A would-be robber is dead after being shot by the store owner. At 6:20 pm, a man in his late 20's/early 30's attempted to remove the cash drawer from the Somer Hut Variety store on 900 block of West Somerset Street in North Philadelphia. The robber got into an argument with the owner, demanding money, and kicked in the door to the cashier's booth. The 69-year-old store owner fired a gun at the suspect, hitting him at least five times. The man was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
