Old City Prostitution Bust, Police Shoot Kensington Man, NJ Fishing Takes A Hit

Three women were arrested following a prostitution bust in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia Police say they were acting on a tip on an illegal massage parlor that was being run out of a basement. Authorities say there were allegations that there were underage females working at the parlor who were physically and verbally abused. Investigators say they have a long history with the location, dating back to 1998.

Police fatally shot a man suspected of shooting a woman in a Kensington home Wednesday night. Three officers who were called out to the home discharged on the suspect after he allegedly shot the woman. The woman was taken to Temple University Hospital in unknown condition. The relationship between the man and woman is not clear. Police are trying to determine the motive in the shooting.

New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin signed an order Wednesday afternoon opening up, as of sunrise Thursday morning, the shellfish beds in coastal waters and estuaries from Little Egg Inlet to Cape May Point. A few sewer plants overflowed into coastal waters and shellfish beds were closed as a precaution. The storm also damaged some fleets and infrastructure. New Jersey governor Chris Christie is requesting a federal disaster declaration for the states commercial and recreational fishing industries that support over 14,000 jobs and generate, according to Christie, about $2.7 billion in economic activity. The Department of Environmental Protection commissioner is working to help Delaware Bay oyster men whose shellfish beds opened Monday. He may extend their season for two weeks to make up for time lost as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
