Temple Students Robbed, Sandy May Cause NJ Tax Hikes, DMB Giving $1 Million to Sandy Recovery

Police are asking Temple University students to be more cautious after a string of off-campus robberies. Police believe the same suspect is connected to the string of robberies. They say he points a gun at his victims' heads, and demands money, phones, and other belongings. At least three robberies, all on Monday, involved Temple student and happened during daylight hours.

By weekâ€™s end, New Jersey should have a preliminary estimate on the cost of damage from Hurricane Sandy. Governor Chris Christie has warned that rebuilding wonâ€™t be totally covered by federal assistance and in some hard hit areas of the state, taxes might have to go up. The Governor received pledges from legislative leaders on both sides of the aisle not to allow partisan bickering to get in the way of rebuilding. But Democrats in the Senate have scheduled public hearings out in the hardest hit areas starting in two weeks.

The Dave Matthews Band is giving $1 million to help Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. The band announced Wednesday that the Nov. 30 opening show of its winter tour at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J., will be a benefit concert. All ticket and merchandise sales will go to the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund, established at the Community Foundation of New Jersey. The Grammy-winning group will wrap up its tour Dec. 22 in Philadelphia. Tickets are still on sale for the Nov. 30 show, which features Jimmy Cliff.
