Camden, NJ, has now tied the record number of homicides in a year for the city set back in 1995. A man who was beaten on November 2nd died as a result of his injuries yesterday at 12:30 pm. Gregory Holder, 45 of Cherry Hill became the 58th victim of homicide this year. He was assaulted during an argument with two men over a drug transaction. An investigation is still under way in that homicide. The murders in the city have ranged from very young to old, drug trade related to innocent victims, and the very strange and horrific including two incidents where the perpetrator was high on PCP and marijuana. The Camden Violence Action Group has been placing colorfully painted crosses in front of Camden City Hall representing every murder victim this year. The collection just keeps growing.

Long Beach Island is now open for residents and home owners to return to begin cleanup and construction after Hurricane Sandy. Governor Chris Christie lifted the mandatory evacuation order effective 6 a.m. Saturday. You must have proof of residency, contractor license, or insurance adjuster license to access the causeway bridge at route 72. The entire island is without gas, and some places still do not have water, sewer, or electric services.A boil-water advisory is in effect for the entire island. They hope to have gas restored by December 1st. Residents who did return today found major damage across the island caused by massive flooding and the feet of sand left by the receding waters in the streets and inside homes. Everyone realizes that this is going to take a long time to recover, but most vowed to rebuild and take the time and effort to restore the island and their lives.
