Nor'Easter Will Bring Rain, Wind, and Snow to Philadelphia and Jersey Shore Wednesday into Thursday

Fresh off the heels of last week's Superstorm hybrid Hurricane/Nor'easter Sandy, the entire Philadelphia area and Jersey Shore will experience a traditional winter Nor'easter starting midday Wednesday and lasting until daybreak on Thursday. This storm is expected to bring heavy rains, gusty winds, and our first snowfall in Philadelphia. The low pressure will intensify off the coast of North Carolina and move up the coast during the day and through the night.

There are a variety of warnings and watches in effect already. A Coastal Flood Warning will be in effect Wednesday at 11 a.m. until Thursday at 8 a.m. for the New Jersey and Delaware coastlines. A High Wind Warning will be in effect from Wednesday at 6 a.m. until Thursday at 6 a.m. along coastal areas. Wind is expected to be between 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts between 50 and 60 miles per hour at its peak. There is also a Wind Advisory for the Philadelphia area. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Philadelphia area and areas both N&W and S&E.

Around Philadelphia the precipitation will start as rain but will start to mix with wet snow as the day goes on. Most accumulation will only occur on grassy surfaces. After sunset some roadways may become covered, especially when it changes to all snow overnight. Accumulation anywhere from 1-4 inches is expected.

Along the coastal areas of Delaware and along the Jersey Shore there will be heavy rains up to 1-2". The winds will also be strong and gusty around 20-30 mph and gusts to 50-60 mph. Coastal flooding is likely. This storm is not as storm as Sandy, but the area is extremely vulnerable since the protective dunes are badly damaged or gone in most locations. The shore could see a quick change over to snow as well.

Be careful while traveling the next day or so, whether you are in an area expecting snow or down the shore where it may flood again. We can probably expect some power outages again with the winds, rain, and snow.
