President Barack Obama Wins Second Term; Mitt Romney Concedes

After a seemingly endless and exhausting 18 months of campaigning and a tense night while election returns came in from across the country, President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden has won re-election for a second term in office. The electoral college tally as of Tuesday night is 303-206. The popular vote is split evenly 49%-49%, right where this tight race was expected to be.

Mitt Romney waited on some close races (especially in Ohio) to concede the race. He congratulated Obama and wished well for him and his family. He thanked his staff especially his wife Ann and running mate Paul Ryan. He said, "This is a time of great challenges for America, and I pray that the President will be successful in guiding our nation... I believe in America. I believe in the people of America. I ran for office because I'm concerned for America... I so wish that I had been able to lead the country in a different direction, but the nation chose another leader..."

President Obama took the stage in Chicago with his entire family to make his victory speech. "We are an American family and we rise and fall as one Nation and one people... We know in our heart that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come." He also extended praise to Vice-President Joe Biden as well as Michelle Obama. He also thanked all of his campaign team. Obama mentioned he'd met with Romney in the coming weeks to see how the could "work together."

"Democracy in a nation of 300 million can be noisy and messy and complicated... that won't change after tonight, and it shouldn't... Despite all of our differences, most of us share certain hopes for America's future... And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you. I have learned from you. And you made me a better president."

"This country has more wealth than any other nation, but thatâ€™s not what makes us rich... What makes America exceptional are the bonds that hold together the most diverse nation on earth."

The night ended with some Bruce Springsteen over the speakers and a lot of confetti in Chicago.
