Hurricane Sandy Images, SEPTA Resumes, Oyster Creek Reactor Declared Safe

The photos and videos that are now circulating showing the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy are heartbreaking. Boats piled by the side of the road, houses in the middle of the road, trees inside of houses. New Jersey Governor Christie calls the devastation at the Jersey Shore "Unthinkable" and beyond anything he thought he would ever see. The loss to homes and personal property will be measured in billions of dollars.

SEPTA began resuming service of its transportation system this afternoon. Most busses are back on scheduled routes as well as the Broad Street subway, the Market-Frankford line and trolleys were back on track. The Norristown High Speed line, Media line and Sharon Hill line are operating however other Regional rail lines are still being cleared of debris.

New Jersey's Oyster Creek nuclear power plant is on "alert" status while waters that created problems with the reactor?s pumping system subside. During Hurricane Sandy, rising waters affected pump performance, and power outages forced generators to kick on. The reactor, in Lacey Township, Ocean County is now considered "safe" according the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
